A very nice example of a highly collectible Imperial German World War I sniper rifle scope. This optic is an example of a Prussian military contract piece, manufactured by C.P. Goerz Berlin and is a 3fach ( 3 X Magnification) as shown by the markings on the scope.
These scopes were requisitioned by the German military during the Great War to be paired permanently with hand-selected, highly accurate Mauser Gewehr 98 (G98) infantry rifles to counter Allied troops in trench warfare, as shown by the marking Gewehr Nr 125 (Matched to rifle No. 125, way of tracking scopes issued out).
The Elevation Dial mounted on top to compensate for bullet drop, turns smoothly and is marked clearly for the bullet drop distances. The rectile contains the heavy vertical post with horizontal bars, featuring the classic right-side pointer/lead marker. The optics are very clear and contain very little age-related damage or misting to the lenses. The mounting tube has the original finish but has no mounting hardware attached but does have some marks/ slight age-related damage to the outside. Some of the damage seems to be where the original mounting hardware would have been.
