WW1 German Model 17 'Egg' Grenade

A nice example of an original WW1 German Model 17 ‘Egg’ Grenade. Totally INERT. Was designed to solve the bulkiness of stick grenades and the excessive weight of the earlier ball-shaped grenades. This has the updated design of a raised centre band which improved handling in the muddy trenches. German soldier could roughly throw this 40m! Soldiers pulled on a cord to ignite the friction fuse before throwing.

This example still retains the original surface finish, does have some pitting/ rust and age-related wear. Does maintain the original fuse but is missing the wire part at the top.  Overall is in good condition
