A nice example of an original British Military Chagul which is dated 1966. A chagul was used by the British army in hot or tropical climates. It works by the bag being made of heavy-duty canvas, this is then soaked and swells to create a watertight flask. The canvas then weeps a small amount of water to the outside which evaporates in the heat which then keeps the drinking water noticeably cooler than the ambient temperature. This example is in good condition, can make out the date and some markings saying, ‘Soak in Water For 48 Hours Before Use’. Does have some age-related wear and staining to the fabric.
